Sage Mountain CenterMonthly Tours at Sage Mountain Center
Feel like an adventure into the mountains of Montana to see solar electricity, solar hot water, wind generation, straw bale/cordwood building technologies, and an environment designed to nurture the spirit? Sage Mountain Center is offering free tours of its facility on the second Sunday of every month. Tours start at 1:00 pm and last two hours. Off-Grid Systems for Professionals

This two-day advanced class in off-grid PV covers the complex world of hybrid power systems, which integrate multiple energy sources (PV, wind power, small hydro, and generators) to satisfy the electrical demand of off-grid sites. This workshop is intended for advanced owners/builders and others with PV and electrical backgrounds who are interested in off-grid applications.

Biodiesel Workshop

This hands-on Biodiesel Production Workshop is designed for individuals
interested in producing their own biodiesel. The course is taught
by Steve Fugate, President and host of Yoderville Biodiesel Collective
along with many of its members. Steve has years of experience producing
and using Biodiesel and will cover all aspects of oil collection,
biodiesel production and implementation strategies. During the titration
lab, individuals will have the opportunity to titrate various samples
of used vegetable oil and are welcome to bring in a small sample of
their own oil to test. Attendees will leave with a thorough understanding
of exactly what it takes to produce high quality Biodiesel in an environmentally
correct manner.

Butte Energy Tour

Southwest Renewable Energy Conference 2010

The Southwestern states are rich in renewable energy resources. Access to abundant sunshine, wind resources, geothermal sources, and biomass means the Southwest region of the United States is poised to become a leader in renewable energy development. Nine years ago, the first Southwest Renewable Energy Conference was held to mobilize research, create awareness and accelerate renewable energy implementation across the region. Solar Water Heating Installation Lab

In this 24-hour course, students will learn the basics of how to properly install two solar domestic hot water heating systems suitable for northern climates. The hands-on workshop includes both theory and installation practice. Participants will work as a group to install both a drainback and pressurized closed-loop system on a training roof. This class will qualify you to be on the Focus on Energy Full Service Installer List and has 21 NABCEP Continuing Education Credits.

IV Annual Native American Economic Development and Renewable Energy Conference

PV Design and Installation Lab
November 8-11, 2010

This course offers participants an advanced level of lecture and hands-on learning that will prepare them for field installations and other advanced workshops. Participants will learn how to correctly design, size and select PV system components and identify and interpret National Electric Code (NEC) articles that pertain to the installations. While working on the MREA outdoor training roof, participants will learn safety procedures, system design and layout, component selection and specification, electrical and mechanical integration techniques, and troubleshooting.

Photovoltaic (PV) System Installation Training--UL Laboratories

This five-day course provides a one week intensive hands-on exposure to the process of installing a photovoltaic system. The course provides critical knowledge of solar energy and systems applied to PV installations. It also focuses on gaining a full understanding of how to organize a successful PV installation project including the review of project documents, site plans, electrical drawings, job specifications, manufacturer installation instructions, and pertinent documentation from the local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ). You will gain essential knowledge and skills in methods to construct the PV array, support structures and install both DC and AC wiring and equipment. You will learn how to conduct an insulation integrity test for DC or AC wiring and equipment and which OSHA requirements apply to the project. You will have many opportunities to apply your week-long experience to real world installation activities. You will also acquire the skills and knowledge to complete the project including needed inspections and evaluations, proper signing and labeling, system testing, calibration and verification of system performance.

Solar Domestic Hot Water Systems

Students will learn the basics of how Solar Domestic Hot Water Heating Systems (SDHW) work and their economic impacts with emphasis on northern climate systems. This class will prepare students for entry-level work in the solar water heating field and will help facilities managers, architects, planners, home owners and government officials to understand the workings and benefits of solar domestic hot water systems.

PV Site Assessor Training

Participants in this 8-hour course will learn how to perform a PV site assessment for a home. The course will cover site assessment tools, system sizing, system recommendation, energy efficiency recommendation, load analysis, array placement options, solar resource analysis, cost estimates, site assessment report, web based performance calculators, and installer and equipment recommendation.
